Why Even Bother?! ~ Why Bother Getting Life Coaching? … Good Question!

Looking back at my life, whether in business, education or the public sector, namely international development work, I can confidently say that it was personal development along with coaching that enabled me to go to the next levels, where had I not, I would have stayed where I was floundering and frustrated. At that time, I didn’t know what I didn’t know so, didn’t even know where to begin, - what questions to ask or how to pivot effectively rather just in a linear way, - simply go get a promotion or some such thing, working harder, but not working better… smarter.

Job promotions can be a good thing, to be recognized for one’s time and efforts, or even qualities and achievements, however, albeit I earned and gleaned plenty, many of mine were according to someone else’s goals, vision and mission, namely – me helping to make their dreams come true at the expense of my own

Which is when I embarked on my own journey of further self-discovery, personal development and empowerment. In my journey to develop personally, learning new perspectives and ways of thinking and doing things, - thing began to shift for me and new opportunities began to present themselves;

1) because I could see them and as such,

2) I was more ready to take them on, and

3) new learnings, teachings / teachers…. *(read as Coaches) came into my life, as well as amazing new opportunities, and even old ones I hadn’t really seen.

There’s that great quote;

‘When the student *(coachee) is ready the teacher *(coach) appears!’

And such is the same for opportunities, when we are ready and able new people come into our lives as do new opportunities. This is exactly what happened to me. I shifted from an employee mindset to an entrepreneurial one, seeking to find solutions for problems in an innovative way, specifically at the time in my case, one that was not ecological, but also socially sustainable in the green-energy field. As such I later became a business co-owner, going from thinking small within an interim consultancy-type outfit to developing into a multi-figured enterprise.

So how did this happen? ~ As developed so too did my business acumen and so too did the calibre of people I found myself collaborating with, thus taking things up to a complete other level. Was it easy, no – often not, but I had a bunch of new resources, tools and strategies in my toolkit to utilize, though most importantly I had Coach(es).

You see, I was determined to be successful in my what I desire to be, do and have – to live optimally, - combining a prosperous career (or vocation) with healthy lifestyle choices, along with more ease of balance and positivity brought in with energizing relationships with people. After experiencing progress in my own pursuits and successful outcomes, - I became a coach myself, as a way to help uplift others to step up to the next levels of all they want to be.

Having been raised, - lived, educated and worked, - internationally all my life in as many as 10 countries and traveled in as many as 96; - I am an adventurer, a traveller, a passionate human being of life, a learner of different cultures and expressions, as well as a lover of the great outdoors a vivid visionary, storyteller and high achiever. Being part of a small family, *(only child raised by a single parent, my father a widower, but more…an intrepid soul), the world was our oyster and from the age of 2, though born in the US, I have lived an expat life ? - I have faced and overcome challenges almost unheard of, as well as the very same that all we human beings face at some point in the journey of life.

Today I work with aspiring Entrepreneurs, Leaders or High performers and achievers, - who know or at the very least sense that their true and real ultimate adventure of their life is theirs to have and are motivated to experience it.

Having moved around, being thrown in at the deep end, or simply out of my depth, but driven by sense purpose and values to be a part of the solutions rather than the problems in the world, - and sheer tenacity mixed with simply not taking No for an answer I have overcome obstacles, and some had I not done the personal development work or life coaching, I would have quit, but I didn’t. I fully understand the pressure top performers can face in their daily work and life, - as a professional I have been there, and as a Coach I have your back.

You can think of me as a neutral professional ally and friend, yet unbiased who listens to you with the sole objective of Your Success; and if necessary, offers up words of advice, and/or points of considerations.

I bring in various tools to work with the mind and to help overcome challenges in life. My passion, as well as my purpose is to help my clients transform and uplift their lives …. to explore, discover, feel, envision and enable themselves to live their fulfilling dream life.

Awhile ago I learnt a valuable lesson - one cannot think oneself fulfilled, one can only feel oneself fulfilled. And I know from my own experience and in coaching that this notion is something many people, including myself until I made the shift, miss.

*(What do I mean? - We constantly think that we need to do this, or that, to get a feeling of happiness or gratitude. However often what gives us joy, happiness and fulfillment is actually something that doesn’t come to your mind easily…. it’s weird I know, but it is part of the human life experience. Afterall we are known as human beings not human doings, and in our now very busy lives too-often overlook)

One example of this is social media. We think that a pretty picture, likes, and comments from others make us happy. However, generally it just makes us feel miserable.

So what makes us happy then?

From my experience, and this is supported by many other leaders and high achievers, it is something that doesn’t come easy to us. So by tackling something difficult, something challenging, something we believe is beyond us, and that by overcoming our fears, doubts and negative inner chatter of imposter syndromes, we can break through blocks and that which limits us. And when done gives us an incredible feeling of accomplishment, invigoration, joy and eventual happiness.

Here’s an example I can share that helps set up for more success - Wake up in the morning after a good night’s sleep and do Morning Success Routines, which consists of beginning with statements/expressions of gratitude/self-love & praise, fresh-water rehydration *(as much 3 litres daily), ease into some movement, then more energetic exercise, cooling down with some stretch/yoga/qigong for example, and topping up with some mind & body-calming meditation followed by making the day’s game plan/ to-do list/action steps and before I shift into the rest of the day… feed on live nutritious food to nourish body, mind and even spirit…. all ap part of the uplift that the MSR brings.

And then a good day can follow, or when challenges present themselves and they do, one is more able to deal with them calmly and more effectively. ,

I start with the hardest task I have to do, I hate feeling stuck, which in turn can make it difficult for me to progress, but when I get going I’m alright. So when I have to, I plan and do it first thing in the morning, after some focused breathing time, I sometimes have to dig in and draw on my willpower. However, once I get going time flies, giving me an amazing feeling of gratitude, satisfaction, happiness of a job well-done ~ setting myself up for a good day ahead.

The rest of my day turns out so differently from when I started, for whatever reason I convinced myself that Admin is a drag, but once done. I am less stressed, I am uplifted, the day goes by easily and full of more joy.

That is just one simple, yet important example of having the right mindset help to get the basics right for a better day, week, month, year(s) and life ahead.

There’s an important lesson here - even until now, my brain simply doesn’t get it. My brain still believes that reading my emails and/or social media newsfeed, or other distractions are what make me happy. It’s the notion of instant gratification, the instant shot of the happy chemicals in my body, - dopamine and serotonin, those momentary ‘feel-good’ fixes, but they don’t last! So, every day, I make a point to get to my laptop using willpower to get past my block(s) - And when I do, I feel amazing…

I really have to share this. What I shared above really has helped to up-shift my life, being able to handle the daily basics of living in the modern-day, but also being more effective in life, work and even relationship ~ challenges and all. However, my huge breakthrough happened in a major mindset shift where I went from and employee mindset to an entrepreneurial one, where after doing the inner-work I was able to connect, interact with country, business and community leaders creating, grabbing and developing high-value opportunities. I say high-value, not just monetarily but definitely positively impactfulful on people, the environment and the world at large.

A Life Coach can help with all of this, - they most certainly did me.

Firstly, it’s not easy to admit to one’s self that something what we believe in so much iis not necessarily what makes us happy, like the many distractions we go to, actually don’t. And secondly, until we develop strong-will to deal with our challenges and overcome our obstacles, - the notion of instant gratification can be like an illness mucking up our well-being and even our health. A coach can really help to speed up the process of breaking through what holds us back.

So, now as a Transformational Success Life Coach, I facilitate self-growth and development when my clients feel overwhelmed or anxious around this process. I seek to bring more awareness of it all, introduce clarity around it all and boost self-motivation to deal with it and also teach techniques to better manage the emotional stress within about it. I am also an avid outdoor enthusiast, yoga and Qi Gong aficionado and remain in the business world, through coaching, training and mentoring.
